So telling your story is essential to create engagement and that is what people are interested in. Awards and benefits are important but what about the people that work there and their stories? The more engaged an employee is, the greater the employee experience, which in turn makes them your biggest brand advocate and ultimately brings in more customers.

Social platforms play a huge part in people’s decision making process, in terms of where they work or what they chose to buy. Values are an essential part of an engaged employee’s experience. 80% of employees felt more engaged when their work is consistent with the core values and mission of their organisation (IBM).If they are highly engaged, they will be your biggest brand advocates. Highly engaged workforces are 21% more productive (Gallup), have improved wellness levels and are ultimately happier. So getting your story out their via your values has never been more important. People, more than ever, want to work for companies that are aligned to their values. So how do you do this?

1) Remember why you do what you do! This is what sets you apart and is the key to your company’s story.

2) Have a clearly defined vision and mission. They are often mistaken for being the same. A vision is ultimately where you want your organisation to be and your mission is clearly and concisely defining what you do, how you do it and what value it brings.

3) What are your values? Taking the time to define them and explain why they are important to you is key. Gone are the days where people feel they live to work or that they feel like their work and personal personas are different. People want to work for a company whose values are aligned to theirs and ultimately feel that they can be themselves.

4) Hire talent that is value aligned and not just for competencies. Talent that is value aligned and sees the value of their work and how it is aligned to that of the company’s overall mission, are more engaged and happier. Ultimately this will improve your retention rates, employer branding and bottom-line.
